Dr Robert Long

If risk is about uncertainty, how can people maintain the idea that all accidents are preventable? ...

Dr Robert Long • If you are interested in seminal work I would suggest you buy the book. Rob

uģis bickis • "seminal"

As in, the original iteration, and foundation for later work(s) ...

  • original and influential, especially of ideas revolutionary for their time;
  • containing or contributing the seeds of later development

Dr Robert Long • Nearly finished second book, and structure together for 3rd and 4th.

uģis bickis • " ... Nearly finished second book ..."

Literacy is, surely, to be applauded.

But, this is (if not provocative) evocative --

"In the beginning, there was nothing. Then God said, "Let there be light". And there was still nothing but you could see it."
Groucho Marx

Seminal -- [confused] ...
sem·i·nal/ˈsemənl/
(of a work, event, moment, or figure)
Strongly influencing later developments.
Of, relating to, or denoting semen.

Alex Mandl • Hey, celebrations all round. To the Canucks, put on your touks and have a great Canada day! For the Yanks, have a great 4th July.

And for Ugis, Australia was far more imaginative - we call our national day - wait for it - Australia Day.

Just as a matter of historical interest, does every country in the world have a special day celebrating when the Brits left town? It's sort of like a reverse Gen. MacArthur thing - "we shall not return". Hooray! :-)

uģis bickis • "touks"?

Sir!
We pride ourselves on constituting a national *mosaic*, as opposed to our southern neighbours' *melting pot*.

All of our constituent nation(alitie)s are espoused with pride and dignity -- except, of course, our indigenous, which is such a disgustingly abhorrent attribute of our past governments, that words to describe my attitude escape me ... but don't get me started on that -- however, we have only two official languages; Arabic isn't one of them.

So, what some might call _____

[OK, here my effort to be cute is thwarted ... GoogleTranslate, for "touque" in Arabic, gives me "touque" ... I guess that it's the reverse_Inuit-lexicon-for-"snow" thing ... reportedly, Canada's northernmost (Alex -- that puts them into the coldest region) aboriginals have 40 different words for "snow", it being all about need ... in (traditional) Arab-speaking countries there may well have been no need for touques]

is, in Canada,
touque (EN) or
touque (FR).

Alex -- sorry for the oblique [ è ] geo-leçon, but (especially in these

that are, ever-so-much,
they are a-changing ...

I believe that it is ever-increasingly important for us to be critically aware of our environment(s), whether weather or climate and distant or near.

So, for example, we are presently at the *beginning* of our summer

and touques are oh!-ever so much not in demand.

"Brits left town"?

"Eats-shoots-and-leaves"?

I guess that, for us, not (by and large) having been sent here by the Brits for our criminal proclivities, there is less rancour.

Heck!
We didn't repatriate our Constitution except by way of afterthought ...
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
PART I OF THE CONSTITUTION ACT
Assented to March 29th, 1982
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/charter/

And, which Charter has now surpassed the .us Constitution as a model document for aspirants to Democratic Values ...

All right ... where was I? Right! Brits!

Hey, 1/3 of us still view our Queen as a [get this!] national icon!
Canada's favourite icons? Yes to beavers, no to Bieber: pollhttp://www.canada.com/Canada+favourite+icons+beavers+Bieber+poll/6863565/story.html#ixzz1zGH9tMHy

And, we greet (especially) wallet-clutching Brits with open arms as visitors to this fair land
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yzo6Otpgj-E

But, that's a trilogy all unto itself ...

And, speaking of trilogies, that gets us back to the 2/3 of us who do not view HRH as our national icon ...

... but, by now even I am confused as to what-the-___! I'm talking about ...

Gotta go water the garden before the day's scorching strikes!
